The parking lot at University Church of Christ in Tyler, TX, received crack filling, sealcoating, and striping as part of one Southend Asphalt job. Our crew worked on the church’s existing asphalt, with the assignment covering both the pavement itself and its painted parking spaces. These were maintenance services, not a new parking lot installation.
Crack Filling and Sealcoating on the Existing Asphalt
Crack filling was part of our work at the church. In an asphalt parking lot, an open crack can give water a path beneath the surface. Filling a suitable crack helps restrict that path. The Federal Highway Administration’s guidance on asphalt crack treatment explains why the amount of movement in a crack matters when deciding between filling and sealing.
On this job, we handled crack filling as part of the maintenance work on the existing lot.
Sealcoating was another part of our work at University Church of Christ.
It covers the exposed asphalt surface, rather than individual cracks. The Asphalt Institute describes sealing as an option for pavement that has become dry or brittle or is starting to lose small particles at the surface.
Sealcoating maintains what’s already there. It doesn’t take the place of pavement repair when damage extends below the surface. We completed that treatment on the existing church lot, alongside the crack filling.
Parking Lot Striping at University Church of Christ
Our crew also completed parking lot striping at University Church of Christ. White lines mark individual stalls on the dark pavement, while blue-and-white markings appear closer to the church entrance.
Painted stall markings show drivers where one space ends and another begins. Striping served that purpose at the church, alongside the separate asphalt maintenance work.
Four Workers and One Day on the Job
Four workers were assigned to the church parking lot. We finished the work in one day and didn’t run into any problems while we were there. That one-day total covered the full maintenance job, including the parking lot striping, not just the work on the asphalt.
When it was finished, the customer was very pleased with what we’d done.
